Carolina herrera resort ‘27
Unfortunately, when Carolina Herrera is mentioned in conversation, people often principally think about the iconic Good Girl scent instead of the brand’s glamorous yet sophisticated style. Carolina Herrera and Wes Gordon have produced one of the most consistent labels there is in the industry today. Contrary to what one may think about fashion being a form of experimentation and art—while those things are most definitely true—I think, in the midst of luxury designers drafting new bold designs utilizing a multitude of shapes, colors, textures, patterns, and everything else to the limits of the mind, brand identity is lost, buried in the chaos of the world. In this global crisis, Carolina Herrera embraces classic simplicity while keeping its designs interesting—weaving together modern trends into timeless elegance.
Anyways—just recently, I was reading Nicole Phelps' review on this very show and found myself agreeing with the content for once. Maybe that’s just because I actually was quite fond of this show myself, so I was able to agree with Vogue’s unwavering positive attitude towards every show. Don’t get me wrong, of course I still have some complaints—but not with the show itself. For someone with the position of chief critic, Nicole Phelps doesn’t express as much criticism as you would expect. The article was so banal, it felt like a congregation of sentence structures for second graders. Instead of any substance, all I interpreted was a robotic overview, stripped of any emotion. What happened to the art of writing with a voice—am I right? I wouldn’t be surprised if Vogue’s use of AI for their cover page had spread to their writing as well.
Now, I think it would be time for my own review of the show. If you want a bland background—just to gather some context—head to Vogue, then come here for an actual opinion. Upon inspecting each of the 47 designs, I have to say, I was impressed. Most of the items nod to Herrera’s roots and still look like someone could step off of the streets wearing them. The denim was a nice touch; it made the collection feel more grounded, while the puffy shoulders and sequins added the perfect amount of pizzaz to the show. I loved the reoccurring boat neck sequence and the beautiful pastels mixed along with vibrant patterns.
Overall, I think that Wes Gordon did a flawless job embodying the essence of Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings and transforming them into wearable art pieces.
